ABOUT US

Has your mission changed?

Our mission has not changed, but our methods have. In the past, there was a more exclusive focus on protecting and advocating for the unborn, leaving a woman in crisis feeling unheard and unseen. We desire to support BOTH the woman and the child. We acknowledge the stress, fear, and uncertainty that accompanies unplanned pregnancy. Regardless of the choice, our approach is free of judgment or shame and instead, full of grace and compassion.

Our mission: For those pregnant or parenting in crisis, we provide practical resources and emotional support.

We believe that our best contribution, with the most significant impact, is both practical and relational. Our focus on mentorship has made a measurable impact on people who lack resources and supportive relationships. When people feel seen, heard, and valued, they experience improved mental health, decision-making, and overall well-being.

Our Core Value of Collaboration leads us to seek partnerships with local faith communities, community organizations, and individuals who believe in creating a community of support where it becomes possible for people in crisis to thrive and experience a hope-filled future.

Do you still provide options counselling & pregnancy tests?

Yes, when a person requests support in pregnancy decision-making, we enter the space of their story and listen more than we talk. We respond to their needs. We provide space for them to share their fears, consider values, and evaluate the life circumstances impacting their decision. We follow our Core Value of respect and do not tell people what to do or obstruct their decision. We see clients strengthened, empowered, and better equipped to make an informed decision when given support and compassion. We hope that abortion is never their only option and that with support, consideration for all options becomes possible.

We continue to provide pregnancy tests for anyone who would like confirmation of their pregnancy. While clients may attend the Centre for a pregnancy test, the greater value is often the emotional support accompanying each test.

What happens when a person chooses abortion?

When a person decides to have an abortion, we continue to provide support and information in a caring manner. In Canada, abortion is legal, accessible, and free. Referrals are not needed

Are you a Christian organization?

Yes. As a Christian organization, we commit to provide compassionate care and support to the vulnerable. Our Core Value of respect drives us to value all people and make space for their feelings, beliefs, and lived experiences.

We recognize that religion has made both helpful and unhelpful contributions to the history of sexuality and reproduction. We believe that faith communities can be known for their love and support and depended upon to seek justice for people experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.
We want to partner with the faith communities of Kitchener-Waterloo to be positive contributors to the social and economic structures needed for people to thrive in an unplanned pregnancy.

Do you participate in abortion protests, picket lines, or pro-life advocacy events?

No. The Pregnancy Centre is not political in our activities, and our work is not focused on changing laws. We are committed to supporting people who are pregnant or parenting in crisis. We stand with the vulnerable, those feeling stressed, conflicted, or in need of support. Our support is relational. Our mission is to create a community where people who are pregnant or parenting in crisis receive the practical resources, and emotional support needed to thrive.

How are you funded?

We are funded by individual donors, churches, businesses, and foundations. We receive government support through the Canada Summer Jobs program. We are a charitable organization, incorporated and governed by a Board of Directors.
