Position Overview and Responsibilities

The Pregnancy Centre is a registered charity that provides practical resources and emotional support to people in Waterloo Region who are pregnant or parenting in crisis. We envision a community where needs are met, and families can thrive.

Over the last two years, the Pregnancy Centre has experienced rapid growth due to increased immigration, housing scarcity, and inflation. We serve hundreds of families each year impacted by poverty, mental health, and generational trauma, all while pregnant or parenting.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Pregnancy Centre is seeking an organized, enthusiastic, and trauma-informed student to join our team this summer.  This student will have the opportunity to provide support to the programs and services offered through the Centre.

Title: Summer Program Planner

Hours: 30 hours/week (Monday to Thursday 9am – 4:30pm).

Hourly Rate of Pay: $17/hour.

Contract: 12 weeks (preferred start date is June 3 or June 10).

Accountability: This role reports to the Client Services Director.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • To assist staff with administration, new client intakes and other reception duties.
  • To support clients in accessing the Care Closet and Care Package program.
  • In collaboration with the Client Services Director, plan and execute a summer drop-in play program for families.
  • Provide support at other summer programs offered at The Pregnancy Centre.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Youth ages 18 – 30, legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A confident and enthusiastic self-starter.
  • A team player who has a desire to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Pregnancy Centre, its programs, staff, volunteers, and community partners in fulfilling our mission.
  • Experience working from an anti-oppressive, equity seeking, and trauma-informed lens.
  • Enrolled in a post-secondary program such as Psychology, Social Work or related field is preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Must have the ability to walk short distances.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds regularly (diapers, wipes, formula inventory and donation drop-offs).
  • Work is performed in person at the Pregnancy Centre and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment.
