Director of Programs and Services

About The Pregnancy Centre
The Pregnancy Centre (TPC) is a registered charity that provides practical resources and emotional support to people in Waterloo Region who are pregnant or parenting in crisis. We envision a community where needs are met, and families can thrive.
Over the last two years, TPC has experienced rapid growth due to increased immigration, housing scarcity, and inflation. We serve hundreds of families each year impacted by poverty, mental health, and generational trauma, all while pregnant or parenting. A monthly relief package of diapers, formula, and infant clothing is provided along with attachment-based parenting programs, peer mentors and counselling services.
Position Overview
The Director of Programs and Services will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and provision of programs and services to the families and individuals who attend TPC. Reporting to the Executive Director, this director serves on the senior management team and provides oversight and leadership to the Program Team.
Hours: Full-time, 30 – 35 hours per week, primarily in-person. (Core Hours Monday to Thursday)
Compensation: Salary range of $46,000 to $58,000 per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience
Benefits: $2000 Health Spending Account per year
Paid Time Off: 2 weeks vacation plus additional paid days during office-wide closure (December 24 – January)
Plus 5 paid flex days (includes sick days).
Accountability: This role reports to the Executive Director.
Supervision: This role supervises the Program Team (includes Program Manager, Childcare Manager and, and the Operations and Administration Manager (for Volunteer and Office Administration responsibilities)
Responsibilities
Client Programs:
- Provide oversight, vision and leadership to all TPC programs.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager to plan and implement engaging, trauma-informed parenting programs for low-resourced mothers. This is inclusive of, but not limited to, Mom to Mom, Easy Eats, and The Pregnancy Centre Mentoring Program.
- Conduct yearly program reviews with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Explore potential program opportunities, conducting research and analysis to identify strategic initiatives for advancement.
- Oversee attendance records, program reports and centre statistics.
Client Services:
- In collaboration with the Operations and Administration Manager, provide oversight and vision to the non-program related services of TPC.
- Oversee client intake and follow-up process and procedures.
- Manage all confidential client files as per agency policies, procedures, and privacy legislation.
- If qualified, provide scheduled and walk-in counselling services to clients.
- Manage Client Services budget and work with Director of Development to source new funding opportunities.
Leadership:
- Work collaboratively as a member of the Senior Leadership Team along with the Executive Director and Manager of Development & Communications.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire team members to reach their full potential, fostering a culture in line with TPC’s values of Generosity, Respect, Collaboration, Connection and Hope.
- Collaborate with other community agencies to provide comprehensive care for clients through referrals and partnerships.
- Represent TPC at local networking groups.
- Manage Client Services budget and work with Manager of Development to source new funding opportunities.
- Prepare regular status reports and present updates to senior management.
Volunteers:
- Identify subject areas for the ongoing development and training of volunteers.
- In collaboration with the Program Team, provide training to all volunteers using an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed lens
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, counselling or related field is required. Preference given to those with an MSW or counselling qualifications.
- A minimum of 3 – 5 years of relevant experience is required.
- Proven track record of building high-performance teams, nurturing talent, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Strong networking skills, with the ability to cultivate and leverage relationships to advance organizational objectives, expand partnerships, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of issues faced by immigrants and new Canadians.
- Experience working with marginalized women
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Preference given to candidates who speak a second language.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community service organizations in the Waterloo Region.
- Knowledge of criminal justice system, Ontario Works, and the Ontario Disability Support programs.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively support persons of diverse ethnic, cultural, and racial backgrounds.
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Mental Health First Aid strongly recommended.
- A team player who has a desire to contribute to the overall effectiveness of TPC, its programs, staff, volunteers, and community partners in fulfilling our mission.
- As a faith-based charity, the Client Care and Outreach worker is required to identify with our Christian mission and with our core values of generosity, respect, connection, collaboration, and hope.
Work Conditions
- Able to travel within the Waterloo Region
- Occasional lifting up to 50lbs/23 kg
- Able to attend periodic events outside of scheduled work hours.
